Abstract

Mass customisation is one of the main paradigms that will enable a company to survive in today’s globalised and competitive market. The implementation of the concept of mass customization in conjunction with on going innovation entails the handling of ever-increasing quantities of product data. Integration of Product Data Technologies is the appropriate answer for managing complex product and process data, throughout the entire life cycle. Two fundamental tools to be integrated during the implementation of mass customization are product configurators and PDM systems. This paper defends the need for this integration and develops the requirements, the conceptual model and the architecture necessary to carry out the integration of these two fundamental tools.
