Robust Process Design

General description:

As mass customization aims at providing individualized products with mass production efficiency, a mass customizing company needs to ensure that an increased variability in customers' requirements will not significantly impair the company's operations and supply chain (Salvador et al., 2009). In this context, robust process design describes a firm's strategic capability to establish a value creation process that is able to deliver customized goods or services in an efficient and reliable manner. This could be realized with the help of flexible automation, process modularity or product modularity. (Salvador et al., 2009)
